My name is Jami Coleman and I have been elected to serve you as your new Regional Director of the Southern Region of the Black Law Student Association.
An army brat born in Stuttgart Germany, I currently reside in Tallahassee Florida where I am a rising 3L at Florida State University College of Law.

Nneka has done and outstanding job as this School Term Regional Director and President Pro Temp of SRBLSA, and it is one my deepest desires to continue to serve the Region and follow in her footsteps.

I am so excited to be apart of this Great Organization and more so excited about this up and coming 2007-2008 school term.

This upcoming conference will provide an opportunity for scholars to engage in discussions concerning a wide variety of legal and social issues, which impact communities of color. Professor Frank Valdés, University of Miami School of Law, has agreed to serve as our keynote speaker.

Student Participants

We have reserved three spaces for students to present their scholarly works. Please submit your papers by January 31, 2007 to patricia.broussard@famu.edu. Papers must reflect your own original work and should not exceed 50 pages. Winners and three runner-ups will be notified by February 15, 2007 and will be given space on the program. If you have further questions, you may contact Professor Pat Broussard at 407-254-3293.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND CLE COMMITTEE: GSCBWLA will be sponsoring a Social Security and Disability Law training seminar to get the knowledge necessary to handle every challenges and legal risks before and during the administrative hearing process in order to improve your value and success throughout the process. This would be a good topic to learn more about to build your practice or to help prepare your relatives or friends who will be affected by this evergrowing and impactful field of law. The training seminar will be Wednesday, February 20, 2007, at Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart, P.A., One Biscayne Tower, 2 South Biscayne Blvd., 34th Floor starting at 12:00 noon. COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE: The next mentorship meeting at Lillie C. Evans is scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2007, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. The topic of the discussion will be the “Importance of Law Enforcement in the Community.” Mrs. Carol Evon Wilson Sharp will be the speaker. GSCBWLA has been invited to celebrate the appointment of the Honorable Geraldine Hogan as a judge of compensation claims on Saturday, February 24, 2007, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Kovens Conference Center, 3000 NE 151st Street, North Miami, Florida.
